Communication is crucial to belonging, being and becoming. (EYLF)
From birth children communicate with others using gestures, sounds and language
They are social beings who are intrinsically motivated to exchange thoughts and feelings, and to use a range of tools and media such as including music, to express themselves and connect with others.
Research shows that music has a major and significant contribution to children’s cognitive development. When playing instruments, children learn to follow signals for start, stop, and play faster, slower, louder and softer. In addition, we become more receptive to learning just by listening to music.
Studies suggest that listening to music during the first three years of life helps the brain form patterns that are essential to the learning process’. Moreover, listening to favourite songs boosts endorphins and endorphins boost attention and memory (Schiller 1999:71).
Our educators
Plan and implement a range of developmentally appropriate music and movement experiences.
We support families to facilitate and extend children’s participation in music and movement at home.
